Check Your Tires for Signs of Wear

How often do you consider the importance of your tires? Those four pieces of rubber not only allow your vehicle to grip the road but they carry the weight of your entire vehicle. Tires play a crucial role in vehicle performance and ensuring they are in top condition can be the difference between arriving at your destination safely and being in a collision. So, what condition are your tires in?

Sidewall Cracks

As your tires continue to wear down, they will begin to show more severe signs of wear and tear. If you see cracks and tears in your sidewall this is a clear indication that the rubber of your tires is becoming extremely worn down. Make sure to be on the lookout for cracks, tears, gouges or bulges on your tires, as these are all signs that your tires aren’t in great shape and should be taken to an auto body shop for inspection.

Excessive Tread Wear

Tire treads are what gives your vehicle traction on the road and prevents you from skidding out. As a car owner, one easy way to check if your tire’s treads are getting too low is by checking the tread wear indicator bars on your tires surface. When you notice that your tire’s treads have become flush with the tread wear indicator bar, this is a clear indication that your tires need changing.

Uneven Tread Wear

Another reason to check your tread wear is to determine whether your treads are wearing out evenly. If your treads are experiencing uneven tread wear, this could be the result of other issues, such as alignment or suspensions problems.

Tire Pressure

Tire pressure factors into your tires overall lifespan and the effectiveness of your treads. If you’re looking to maximize the lifespan of your tires ensure you maintain the correct tire pressure. Deflated tires have more contact with the road than tires inflated to the correct pressure amount, which causes them to wear out faster.
